A life-long gift to Phoebe, Love Sophia

Heather | June 24, 2010 12:48 pm

The girls had been playing wonderfully yesterday running around and playing chase. I was getting myself ready for a meeting I was going to be having at 1:30pm at my house. I was in our bathroom and was coming out just in time as Phoebe was coming down (from Sophia pushing her) and smacking her head on the edge of the leg of our bed. The “THWACK” sound it made was horrific and something I will never forget in my life. I knew it was bad as soon as I heard it. Phoebe immediately starting crying and Sophia had already bolted knowing she had done wrong. I scooped Phoebe up and put her on the kitchen counter to get a good look at her and that is when I saw all the blood. It was dripping down her face and down her ballerina outfit and all over me. Just imagine the force at which her head probably hit the bed because she was running and then got pushed. She was being propelled pretty fast. It is no wonder she cracked her head open. I grabbed the kitchen towel and tried to hold it to her head but she was not going to have any of that. I was shaking all over and crying and was trying to call BJ but the call was not going through. (he can tell his version later) I told Sophia to get a shirt on and shoes. She was calm and quick in her actions. She was commenting about how Phoebe is hurt and we need to take her to the doctor. Basically repeating anything I was saying. At this point I did not know how bad it was because her bangs were in the way and she would not let me touch it. I FINALLY got in touch with BJ as I was out in the garage strapping Phoebe into her seat. I know I managed to say that Phoebe was hurt, bleeding all over the place and for him to meet me at the CareNow in Frisco. Over my own crying, Phoebe’s crying, and Sophia chattering about in the background I could not hear him much and just wanted to get off the phone so I could drive and get help. So I hung up after that. **Hindsight I realize I should have at least added that she was alive and not bleeding to death and would be fine.**

They got her in quickly and worked like a well oiled machine. Everyone knew what they had to do and did it fast and smoothly. They were calm and did not make me feel bad for being a crying wreck. Once they moved her bangs and cleaned the blood away I got to see how bad it really was, and I wish I hadn’t. It is an inch long and was busted open about half an inch. You could see all the fleshy stuff under her skin. I felt so terrible for her. They had her wrapped tight in a blanket and she cried and screamed the worst when they had to inject her with the numbing medicine. She got pissed off all over again when they turned on the bright light for the doctor to see. She would get calm and then cry and yell at them to stop, or to not touch her, or to go away, or to let her out. I couldn’t watch most of the time and just held her hand and covered my face with a Kleenex. BJ arrived after just a couple stitches had been put in. He was very happy to see she was alive and relatively well. We were in and out in less than an hour. I was completely impressed and thankful so I could go home and crash and let Phoebe relax too.

This picture is a few hours after she was stitched up and we were changing her bandage. She is still oozing blood some, even today.
Where was Sophia during all this? The nurses set her up at a desk and let her draw with a pink highlighter. Oh, and also gave her a BUNCH of stickers. She drew all sorts of stuff, but as she explained to me, the one pictured below is of Phoebe with the cut on her head (the line going down the middle of her face). I find it interesting she still chose to draw a smiley face on her…..although, she never really has drawn people with any expressions other than happiness. She was good throughout the whole ordeal and never cried once from being scared, worried or nervous. Good for her, because I did NOT need 2 crying, freaking out kids.

Phoebe bounced back well and has been playing around like nothing happened. She does comment, however, every once in awhile about how she cracked her head, broke her head, hurt her head, etc. I am still traumatized from yesterday and get a headache just looking at her head. She has a huge bump on her head as well. We had actually planned on growing her bangs out, but that will have to wait several months I suppose. I need to keep it covered so mama doesn’t always have the visual reminder or what happened to my sweet, sweet baby.

Our latest addition

Heather | May 21, 2010 9:08 pm

We have been wanting to get Sophia a bike. While she is doing well on her tricycle, she is clearly outgrowing it. They were having a great sale at Toys R’ Us so we couldn’t resist.

She was very pleasantly surprised and got right up onto it. We got the 16 inch instead of the 12 inch wheels because she is big for her age and she has good growing room. BJ and I have been so shocked at her fast progress in one afternoon with this bike. She can get going pretty fast, steer, and brake. Braking was the last thing she learned but one of the most important! Our original plan had been to get her one at Christmas, but with it being Summer it seemed too perfect to go ahead and get one now. I see many more evenings spent outside riding bikes. Not a bad thing indeed!

The thoughts in her head

Heather | 8:52 pm

BJ and I plan to have another baby. No, I am not pregnant yet, but we will hopefully be preggers by the Fall. We have been open in our communication with the girls about our desire to have another baby. To our surprise, the girls appear to be excited and supportive, if not a bit impatient. Sophia and I have discussed what a uterus is, what it does and where it is. (She is REALLY into anatomy) Every once in awhile she will ask me about babies, my uterus, if I am pregnant and other various related questions. I went to my OB/GYN this morning to get my IUD out and have been explaining to Sophia where I was going. But I simply explained that the doctor will make sure I am healthy and my uterus is healthy so I can have another baby one day. As soon as I walked back in the door she says “Where is your baby? Where is the baby?” After I was done giggling I explained again what I had gone to the doctor for and that I was NOT pregnant yet. I showed her where they took my blood and she promptly kissed my band-aid and gave me a hug. I love that kid.

While I was gone BJ had the girls watching the most recent animated Wonder Woman movie. After barely 10 minutes of being home she came up to me wearing her pink, long sleeved ballerina body suit with 2 balls (of the same size) stuffed down the front of her to look like boobs. I asked her who she was– “Dianna” she tells me. I was a bit baffled for a moment until daddy explained–”Wonder Woman”. It made total sense. She then went back to the play room and linked together some plastic links to make her “rope”, but really her golden lasso. She tucked it under her panty at the thigh just like Dianna does….almost. What a nut. Daddy at least got some great booby shots!

Adventure Landing

Heather | May 15, 2010 11:09 pm

We decided this Saturday to just go out and have some fun as a family. We meant to go to Adventure Landing for Sophia’s birthday, but never made it. So we went today, at an earlier time than we had planned for our initial trip. It was good timing because it wasn’t too crowded and the weather was gorgeous! We first did miniature golf.

Notice Sophia and I are dressed as ‘twins’?!
Sophia never held her putter correctly after being shown multiple times by her daddy on how to do it. But it never stopped her from whacking the ball or having a blast while doing it.

They had a “baby putter” for Phoebe. She was a whole other story! She didn’t care how she was supposed to hold it, she was going to do it her own way no matter what, did not want help, and would not give me a turn (we were sharing balls).

She spent most of the time hitting it the first time, then picking up the ball and taking it close to the hole and either taking multiple tries of getting it in. OR she would pick it up and put it right in the hole and say she “did it!”

They were both so proud of themselves and I was shocked at how much fun they had. This was the first time, for both of them, to do miniature golf and they loved it so much. They were so well behaved too which made it even more fun for mommy and daddy!

That is Phoebe smiling and jumping for joy at how awesome she is doing

There were many times and many shots of Sophia with her arms up due to her awesomeness at mini golf as well.
After golf we rode double go-carts. Sophia with BJ and Phoebe with me. Sorry no photos on this one as we all went at the same time. BJ enjoyed passing us. The kids side has a wheel too so they can pretend to drive. Both girls enjoyed that addition. We get to ride for several minutes which is great (you definitely feel like you are getting more of your moneys worth). We then went to the arcade, played a few games, and the girls each earned a little prize: Sophia a pink slinky and Phoebe two little green army men. We couldn’t resist one more trip around the go-cart track and enjoyed ourselves just as much as the first time. Here is a shot of each girl back in the car — post Adventure Landing.

I had fun too!

We topped off the night with dinner at Chick-fil-A (by far the girls most favorite place to eat) and a little play time in the kids play area. Sophia passed out quickly at bedtime. Gee, wonder why?

Funny videos

Heather | 10:43 pm

Sophia is very independent with my iphone. Daddy has added an application called “Weet Woo” where she can access kid friendly YouTube videos. One of which is a montage of crazy cats. She has found one in particular that she can sit and watch over and over and over again! She laughs her head off. We have let her watch it on the big computer too and found some other funny videos about cats, dogs, and hamsters. We have all been enjoying ourselves as a family watching them. This inspired BJ to get some AFV episodes, and we have been enjoying ourselves even more by watching them with the girls. Thank goodness for accident prone, careless people, funny babies, crazy animals, and so on! This is a shot of Sophia enjoying above mentioned funny videos.

Happy Mother’s Day

“Do you love Mommy?” I ask Sophia.
“I Love her all of it,” she replies.
“All of what?”
“All of her,” she clarifies.
“Why do you love her?” I ask.
“Because she carried me in her belly.”
“And nanny carried you in her belly,” she adds.
“I will have a baby in my belly!” she exclaims.
“That’ll be a while,” I say.
“Tell me more about why you love mommy,”
“Mommy’s pretty, and she makes me pancakes. Mommy plays with me and likes to scare me.”

“Phoebe, why do you love mommy?”
“Mommy a girl, like me!!”
At this point Phoebe just stared at me with a big grin. Obviously thinking something but not able to get it out.
“Why do you give mommy hugs?”
“Mommy like to cuddle, she helps me.”
Phoebe then begins to talk about mommy not being angry and about Phoebe not having accidents and that Daddy loves mommy too.
“Yes Phoebe, we all love Mommy.”

Happy Birthday Sophia

BJ | May 2, 2010 4:59 pm

Sophia turned 4 years old on the 26th of April. As such we have implemented a new set of rules for her.

  1. No more sippy cups
  2. Be modest at all times
  3. Blanky has to stay at home
  4. More chores

We just had a little get together to celebrate her Birthday. We’re still waiting for a time to take her to Adventureland for some Go-Karting, mini golf, and some videogames.

In the meantime I’ve been putting together the summer gift to the girls.

Thanks to Granny, Grandad, Nana, and Poppi we were able to get the larger framing work out of the way. However quite a bit of the final assembly was left to me.

Yes, you’re seeing that right. It includes monkey bars, swings, picnic table, toybox, slide, raised fort, rock wall, etc…

Typical Phoebe

Heather | March 26, 2010 8:03 am

I believe that I have made a previous post about this same topic before, but in case I haven’t I thought I should. And in case I have, well, this second one just emphasizes how true this is.

Phoebe loves to dress up.

20100307_DSC1262.jpg

Most mornings, within about an hour of being awake she ends up in a ballerina outfit, princess dress, or “sorcerer” pants. Sometimes the princess shoes will be added, sometimes not. As you can see from the photo she was in full Princess mode–crown and wand included. When we visited cousins a month ago she went from dress up to dress up multiple times a day and LOVED IT! She wore her cousin’s Princess shoes so much they ended up giving her blisters. She was hurt and upset from the blisters, but also from not being able to wear the shoes anymore either. We really need to get more dress up stuff to keep this kid clothed and happy!
