Happy Birthday Heather

BJ | May 31, 2009 11:59 am

I know this is a little late. I just wanted to wish my wife a wonderful late birthday. I bought her a car. Seriously.

2006 Honda Pilot.

It replaces her 1991 Honda Accord.

There are so many things that we haven’t posted in the last month that it’s going to take a while for us to catch up.

I just did a full reinstall on my main server/workstation in the office so I won’t have any new photos up until Lightroom, Photoshop, and Noise Ninja get installed.

Please be patient and we’ll have some wonderful stories to tell.

You also might want to tell Heather to post here instead of Facebook.

Loving this age

I have been cautious about any excitement I may have about Sophia turning 3 years old. I hear lots of stories about how difficult or hard 3 is, worse than 2! However, most of those have been about boys, so maybe it is different for 3 year old girls. I have felt like 2 was pretty good for Sophia. If I take out all the fighting and frustrations I have about her contact with Phoebe, Sophia is a funny, sweet, silly, little girl.

Last month we celebrated her 3rd birthday. We kept it much simpler this year than her previous 2 years. We went to Peter Piper Pizza with BJ’s family and ate tons of pizza and used up 50 tokens in the play area.

Phoebe adored this clown car that moved back and forth. I swear she rode that thing 10 times.

We had such a good time and I didn’t have to deal with preparing or cooking any food! I did, however, make cupcakes for Sophia and we all came back to the house to sing to her and do presents. The big gift this year was a sandbox (from Granny and Grandad) with lots of sandbox toys. Nana got dinosaurs for it too and they have been a big hit! The girls have probably dumped a whole bag worth of sand on the grass, patio, and on my kitchen floor. It is a good thing sand vacuums up so easily. The sandbox will really keep the girls entertained this summer!

To Sophia, happy birthday baby! I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us. I love you more than you may ever know.

Speech

There was a day a couple years ago that I was sitting at Chipotle having lunch by myself. There was a mom eating lunch with her son, who looked about 7 years old. I couldn’t help but over hear their conversation. It was a simple conversation, but I enjoyed the back and forth of it and that her son could reciprocate so many thoughts and feelings. I told myself I couldn’t wait for that day to come for Sophia and I: when she could tell me what was in that little head, ask me questions so she could learn new things, and on and on. We are pretty much there, almost. She amazes me with the things she says and what she asks. It has been a lot of fun for me and brought on many laughs. Here is a sampling of my little Sophia:

Zebras is pronounced “zwebras”, Giraffes is “giraffseses”

My favorite version of Bah, Bah Black Sheep: “Blah, Blah black sheep have you any WOOL?! Yessir, yessir three bags FULLLL!! One to my dollas, one to my dames, one to the little girl who lives down the drain!” *big grin*

She went through a period of referencing me as “your highness”. A mom has gotta love that, right?!

Comes running out of the hallway from her room and asks me “Can you tell me to stop it?” I really don’t know what she was doing.

She was doing something silly with BJ and he asked her if it was fun. She says “It’s not fun, it’s laughing funny.” And indeed they had been laughing from the fun they had been having.

She points to a picture of a hot dog in a bun and calls it a “dog hamburger”. A “hot dog” in our house is usually just the wiener. The bread really did make it sort of look like a hamburger.

I am also learning I am underestimating Phoebe and what she knows and what she can say. I was sitting at the table eating a snack with her and she tells me “I want some more.” Oh my gosh! A complete sentence! She manages to do this everyday and amaze me with a new sentence, long or short. I still speak very simple and plainly to her, but I am quickly learning that I am going to have to change how I speak to her so that she can progress. I certainly don’t want to be the one holding her back! How quickly these little babes grow and change.
