I picked up Buckethead’s latest CD about 4 months ago or so. I started raving about it at work, which led a friend of mine to find out that Buckethead was playing here in Dallas. We bought tickets and had a blast at the show. The highlight (for me) was actually his opening act, Kid Beyond. I suggest checking Kid Beyond out. He does some amazing stuff with live looping and beatboxing. Anyway, back to Buckethead, On his latest CD “Enter the Chicken” there’s a track called Coma. Coma features a ethereal alto singing over Buckethead’s guitar. I looked up this woman, and discovered Azam Ali. I picked up three of her CDs and have been enthralled ever since. I still need to pick up her latest CD but have been thoroughly enjoying her latest collaborative project, Niyaz. If you had to put it in a genre, I’d put it somewhere between Persian world music and new age, sort of a sad Arabic Loreena McKennit. Give the first track of Niyaz a listen.
A man of true science... uses but few hard words, and those only when none other will answer his purpose; whereas the smatterer in science... thinks, that by mouthing hard words, he proves that he understands hard things.
